Logline: A Russian director-screenwriter agrees to make a propaganda film about Ukrainian Nazis to save his daughter, who is sentenced to prison because of her political views.
Synopsis: The film is set in modern-day Russia after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Sergey is an egotistic and arrogant director-screenwriter who is exceptionally talented and successful. His daughter, Nadia, arrives from London to visit her father, and just a few days later, she is charged for handing out anti-war flyers. After an unjust court hearing, Nadia is sentenced to eight years in a high-security prison. Sergey strikes a deal with Fedor, a Russian National Film Fund representative, to write a propaganda film in exchange for Nadia's freedom. Sergey meets with consultants, befriends a wounded in-action soldier, and writes a cheesy, over-the-top propaganda picture. Hired director Pyotr grows uncomfortable with the film's discrepancy with reality and quits. Sergey agrees to finish the movie as the director. Nadia's treatment in prison improves as her father moves up the career ladder. She protests by refusing food and tries to confront Sergey. Once they meet, Sergey has changed his values and political views, which he once shared with his daughter. The connection between them is broken. When Sergey attends his film's premiere, Nadia is carried out of prison dead. The filmmaker misses the passing of his daughter. Instead, he relishes long-awaited fame when his film receives overwhelming praise.
